Padmavathi Devi Temple sits at Tiruchanur, 5 km south of Tirupati town in Andhra Pradesh. The temple is dedicated to Padmavathi (also called Alamelumanga) — Goddess Lakshmi in her form as the consort of Bhagavan Venkateswara at Tirumala. Tradition holds that Padmavathi was born of a lotus on the bank of a sacred tank at Tiruchanur, was raised by the local Akasha Raja, and chose Bhagavan Venkateswara as her husband. The temple is held by long Vaishnava tradition to be the principal complement to Tirumala — pilgrims who visit Tirumala without first paying respects at Padmavathi are held to receive an incomplete darshan.

The temple is managed by the same Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) that runs Tirumala, with daily aartis, slot-based darshans, and the same modern pilgrim infrastructure. Padmavathi sees its highest crowds during the Brahmotsavam — the annual Padmavathi festival that mirrors and complements the Tirumala Brahmotsavam.

Padmavathi Devi is the Lakshmi-Sri of the Tirumala tradition. Sri Vaishnava theology places Padmavathi as an inseparable aspect of Vishnu himself; visiting her temple is held to be visiting the goddess-form of the same supreme divinity worshipped at Tirumala. The bhav at Padmavathi is gentler, more maternal, more accessible than the imperial bhav of Tirumala — many devotees prefer the Padmavathi darshan for personal prayers and household concerns.

చరిత్ర

Padmavathi Devi Temple as the present structure was rebuilt and consolidated under the Vijayanagara emperors in the 14th-16th centuries; earlier shrines on the site go further back. The TTD has managed the temple alongside Tirumala since 1932. Modern facilities (queue management, Annaprasadam, slot-based seva booking) are similar to Tirumala's.

వాస్తుశిల్పం

The temple is built in Dravida style with a high gopuram, multiple prakaras, and the sanctum with Padmavathi seated in golden ornament. Side shrines include Sundararaja Swamy (Vishnu-form) and Andal (the Vaishnava saint). The sacred Padma Sarovar tank where Padmavathi is said to have been born is adjacent to the temple.

ఆచారాలు & పూజలు

The temple follows TTD's standard schedule — Suprabhata Seva at dawn, multiple darshan windows, Arjita Sevas, and Bhog distributions. Pilgrims offer chunari, jasmine flowers, and sweets. The traditional sequence at Tirupati: arrive at Tirupati, do Padmavathi darshan at Tiruchanur first, then proceed to Tirumala for the Venkateswara darshan.
