Sawan 2026 — Dates That Matter in Kashi
Shravan is the month the shastras give wholly to Mahadev, and nowhere observes it like Kashi. In 2026 (Purnimanta calendar, followed in Kashi), Sawan runs 30 July to 28 August.

On Somwars the Kashi Vishwanath queue can run several hours, and the temple often moves to jhanki darshan (continuous flowing darshan). Sugam Darshan tickets and aarti seats sell out days ahead. If your dates are flexible, Tuesday to Sunday darshan in Sawan gives you the month's grace with half the wait.

When does Sawan 2026 start and end?
In Kashi (Purnimanta calendar), Sawan 2026 runs from Thursday 30 July to Friday 28 August. The four Sawan Somwars fall on 3, 10, 17, and 24 August, and Sawan Shivratri on Tuesday 11 August.
Is Kashi Vishwanath darshan possible on Sawan Somwar?
Yes, but expect the year's longest queues — often several hours — and jhanki (flowing) darshan rather than sparsh. The temple modifies its system each Sawan week. We track the current arrangement and plan your slot accordingly; weekday darshan in Sawan is far gentler.
Can we do Rudrabhishek at the temple during Sawan?
Temple-conducted sevas exist but are extremely limited in Sawan. Most families perform Rudrabhishek at a private shivalaya near the ghats — same vidhi, learned pandits, no time pressure. We arrange both where possible.
What is the Kanwar Yatra and does it affect my visit?
From 30 July, lakhs of kanwariyas collect Ganga jal to carry to their home Shiva temples. The devotion is a sight in itself, but roads around the ghats and highways into Varanasi run diversions. Build in buffer time — our drivers plan around it.
Should I book hotels in advance for Sawan?
Yes — walking-distance hotels near the temple sell out weeks before each Somwar and Sawan Shivratri. If your dates are fixed, confirm accommodation first; everything else can follow.
