Mahashivratri 2027 in Kashi — What the Night Holds
Mahashivratri is the night of Shiva — the night, tradition holds, of his wedding to Parvati. In Kashi it carries a weight no other city gives it: Vishwanath is the bridegroom, and the city is his baraat. Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple stays open through the night, puja is offered in each of the night's four prahars, and shiv baraat processions wind through the old city — Mahadev carried as groom through lanes packed with his wedding party.

Realistic guidance: do not plan to stand the whole night. Choose one window — the first prahar in the evening, or the hours after Nishita when the queue briefly eases — and keep the rest of the night for the baraat and the ghats. Elderly pilgrims should take daytime darshan on the 6th, or darshan on the days on either side.

When is Mahashivratri in 2027?
Saturday, 6 March 2027 — Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi. The Nishita puja, the night's most sacred hour, runs 12:07 to 12:57 AM as the night crosses into 7 March, and the fast is broken on the morning of the 7th (per Drik Panchang).
Is night darshan at Kashi Vishwanath really possible on Mahashivratri?
Yes — the temple stays open through the night and lakhs pass through it. Possible is not the same as comfortable: darshan runs as jhanki (flowing), sparsh is suspended, and waits of several hours are normal. Pick one window — evening prahar or the hours after Nishita — and we plan your entry around that day's queue arrangement.
Can we take part in the four-prahar puja?
The temple's own ticketed prahar-puja seva is very limited and sells out well ahead. Most families keep the vigil at a private shivalaya near the ghats with learned pandits — the same vidhi, all four prahars, unhurried. We arrange either where possible, and tell you honestly which is realistic for your dates.
Can elderly parents manage Mahashivratri in Kashi?
The night queue means hours of standing in packed lanes — we do not recommend it. Daytime darshan on the 6th, or darshan on the adjacent days, is far gentler; the shiv baraat can be watched seated from a balcony we arrange. Tell us ages and mobility and we pace the plan around them.
How early should we book hotels?
Walking-distance rooms for Mahashivratri sell out two to three months ahead — and 6 March 2027 is a Saturday, so the weekend compounds it. If your dates are fixed, confirm the hotel by December 2026; everything else can follow.
Can we combine a Rudrabhishek with the darshan?
