Day 1 begins at Ahmedabad in the evening. The boarding point is Geeta Mandir bus stand or Paldi — we send you the operator name, coach number, and exact pickup time the day before. The AC sleeper coach we use has reclining berths, blankets, and a clean washroom-stop schedule; we have run with two operators all season and pick whichever is on the lane for your date. The coach pulls out by 9:00–10:00 PM, runs west through the Saurashtra night — past Rajkot, past Jamnagar — and reaches Dwarka by 5:30–6:30 AM the next morning. You sleep on the coach; Day 1 is the journey, the yatra begins at Dwarka at dawn.
గమనిక Carry a light shawl — the coach AC runs cold through the night. Pack a small overnight bag with the next day's clothes and toiletries on top; your main luggage goes in the coach hold. Light dinner before boarding; the coach makes a brief food-stop around 11 PM. Modest dress — you walk to Mangla aarti almost as soon as you reach Dwarka. We share the operator and coach number on WhatsApp the day before.
The coach drops you at Dwarka around 6 AM. We check into the 3-star hotel — chosen for walking distance from Dwarkadhish — for a quick freshen-up, and walk to the temple for Mangla aarti, the dawn ceremony. Dwarkadhish — Sri Krishna as the king of the western sea-city — is darshan-ed in his royal form; the temple stands at the Gomti's mouth where the river meets the Arabian Sea. After aarti, breakfast at the hotel, then the cab takes us to Rukmini Devi temple, 2 km outside the town — the shrine of Krishna's queen, the one full-fledged temple of Rukmini in India. The temple stands alone in the scrub; the story is that Durvasa ji's curse separated her shrine from her husband's by these two kilometres.</p><p>Mid-morning we drive to Okha and cross the Sudarshan Setu — the cable-stayed bridge opened in February 2024 — to Bet Dwarka, the island where Krishna kept his palace, where Sudama is held to have come with his handful of rice. Darshan at Dwarkadhish-of-Bet (the older, palace-form Dwarkadhish), the Sudama temple, and the small Hanuman Dandi shrine. Drive back to Dwarka, lunch (own arrangement — we recommend the Bhojanalaya in Dwarka), then back across the bridge for the Sudama Setu walk over the Gomti — the modern pedestrian bridge that lets you see the temple from the river side.</p><p>Afternoon we drive 16 km out of Dwarka to Nageshwar Jyotirlinga — one of the twelve, the one Jyotirlinga at Dwarka. The temple is set in open ground, marked by a 25-metre tall Shiva murti; the linga itself is in the inner shrine. Our coordinator gets you through without losing the afternoon in a queue. Back at the hotel for dinner; tomorrow we drive to Somnath.
గమనిక Mangla aarti at Dwarkadhish runs 6:30–7:00 AM; we get you there by 6:15. Modest dress at all three temples; no leather, no cameras inside the sanctum at Dwarkadhish or Nageshwar (lockers at the entry). Bet Dwarka is a ten-minute road crossing each way over the Sudarshan Setu; the island is walked entirely, no auto. The old Okha ferry still runs when the sea allows and can be taken on request. Lunch on Day 2 is on your own — ₹120–200 per head at the local thali places. Sun is bright by 10 AM; a cap and water bottle help.
An early breakfast, then we leave Dwarka by 7:30 AM and drive south along the Saurashtra coast — through Porbandar (the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and the legendary birthplace of Sudama), past fishing villages and salt-flats, the Arabian Sea on our right almost the whole way. Four and a half to five hours, one chai stop. We reach Somnath by lunch, check into the 3-star hotel — walking distance from the temple — and after a quick lunch and rest we walk to Somnath for the afternoon darshan. The Jyotirlinga is the first of the twelve; the temple has been broken and rebuilt seven times since the puranas — by Mahmud of Ghazni, by Alauddin Khilji, by Aurangzeb — and stands today as the 1951 rebuilding by Sardar Patel's effort, on the original spot, facing the southern sea. The darshan is brief, the queue is moving; this is a Jyotirlinga, not a sit-and-watch shrine.</p><p>After darshan, the cab takes us to Triveni Sangam — five minutes away — where the Saraswati, the Hiran, and the Kapila rivers meet and enter the sea together. A small ghat, a brief sankalp, three handfuls of jal as tarpan. From Triveni we drive 5 km out to Bhalka Tirth — the spot where Sri Krishna, resting under a peepal tree, was struck on the foot by the arrow of the hunter Jara, who mistook the divine foot for a deer. The shrine marks the spot where Krishna gave up his earthly body. The bhava here is quiet; this is the closing place of the Krishna-leela.</p><p>Back to Somnath, dinner at the hotel, then walk down to the temple by 7:30 PM for the evening sound-and-light show — Jay Somnath — the history of the seven destructions and seven rebuildings narrated over the temple wall, in the Saurashtra night.
గమనిక Somnath darshan: modest dress, no leather, phones in the locker at entry. The afternoon darshan window is 12:00–7:00 PM, generally moderate crowd outside Mahashivratri. VIP darshan ticket (₹300 per head) is optional; the general darshan is included and queue-moves well with our coordinator. Triveni Sangam ghat is small and quiet; sandals slip off on the wet steps, take care. Sound-and-light show runs 8:00–8:45 PM; the seating is on stone steps, a thin shawl helps for the sea-breeze. Pure-veg meals across Somnath.
The closing morning. Pre-dawn at Somnath; we walk down to the temple by 6:45 AM for the morning aarti — the bell, the conch, the linga washed with milk and Ganga jal, the lamps lit on the platform that faces the sea. The aarti is short, about 30 minutes, and the temple is quieter at this hour than the afternoon. After aarti, a final parikrama of the inner shrine, prasad, and we walk back to the hotel for breakfast and checkout. By 9:30 AM the AC sleeper coach is waiting at the Somnath boarding point; we board for the return run. The journey is ~7 hours through the daylight Saurashtra — Junagadh, Rajkot, the plains east — with one lunch-stop at a roadside dhaba. The coach drops you at Geeta Mandir in Ahmedabad by 5:00–6:00 PM. Two Jyotirlinga done. Dwarkadhish darshanned. Bet Dwarka touched. The yatra closed.
గమనిక Morning aarti at Somnath runs 7:00–7:30 AM; we get you there by 6:50. Light shawl for the coach AC on the return. The lunch-stop is around 1:00 PM at a clean roadside dhaba — pure-veg, Gujarati thali, ₹150–200 per head (on your own).
