Day 1 begins at the Mumbai platform in the evening. Saurashtra Mail (22945/22946) is the classic Mumbai-Dwarka AC train, leaving Mumbai Central around 8:25 PM and reaching Dwarka the next day around 1:10 PM. We book your berth at confirmation — 3AC or 2AC as you choose. The Saurashtra Janata Express is the usual fallback, but it terminates at Jamnagar, from where Dwarka is a further 130 km by road — we quote that road leg separately if it is the only berth available on your date. Dinner is on the train (pantry car serves veg thali) or carried from Mumbai. The first night is the rail-night; you sleep across western India, wake up in Saurashtra. Your only task on Day 1 is to be at the platform 45 minutes before departure with the printed PNR and ID.

You arrive at Dwarka station in the early afternoon, at about 1:10 PM. Our sedan and driver are waiting; the 3-star hotel is within walking distance of Dwarkadhish, so check-in is quick. A short rest, fresh clothes, then walk over to Dwarkadhish for the afternoon darshan; the 6:30 AM Mangla aarti is kept for Day 3 morning, before the Porbandar drive. Dwarkadhish is the temple of Sri Krishna in his Dwarka aspect — black stone, five-storey shikhara, the dhwaja-pataka changed five times a day. After Dwarkadhish, Rukmini Devi Mandir 2 km outside town — the wife-temple, set apart because of Durvasa's curse. Then a walk over Sudama Setu, the pedestrian bridge across the Gomti to Panchkui Tirth.</p><p>After lunch we drive 30 km north to Okha and cross the Sudarshan Setu — the cable-stayed bridge opened in February 2024 — to Bet Dwarka, Krishna's island palace in the Arabian Sea where he lived with his queens. The crossing takes about ten minutes each way in the car. On the island: Sri Krishna Mandir, Hanuman-Makardhwaj Mandir, the spot where Sudama is held to have met Krishna. Back to the mainland by 4 PM, drive 25 km to Nageshwar Jyotirlinga — the giant Shiva statue marks the temple, and the Jyotirlinga itself is in a small underground sanctum. By dusk we are back at Dwarka for the Gomti Ghat evening aarti at the riverside. Dinner at the hotel.

Early breakfast at the hotel, checkout by 8:00 AM. We drive south along the Saurashtra coast — Dwarka to Porbandar is 110 km on the coastal highway, about 2 hours past salt flats and small fishing towns. At Porbandar we visit two temples that sit fifty metres apart in the old town. Sudama Mandir is the only temple of consequence in India to Krishna's boyhood friend Sudama — the poor brahmana who walked to Dwarka with a handful of beaten rice for his rich friend and returned home to find his hut turned into a palace. A small temple, white marble, the murti of Sudama with folded hands. Next door is Kirti Mandir — built around the small three-storey lane-house where Mohandas Gandhi was born in October 1869. The house is kept exactly as it was — the room where his mother gave birth, the room where he studied, the family kitchen.</p><p>Lunch at Porbandar (Gujarati thali, we know the place). Afternoon we drive on to Somnath — 130 km, 2.5 hours along the coast. Check-in at the 3-star hotel near the temple by 5:00 PM, freshen up, walk over for the 7:00 PM Somnath evening aarti. The Jyotirlinga is the first of the twelve, looted and rebuilt seven times across history, the present temple completed in 1951 by Sardar Patel. After aarti, the Jay Somnath sound-and-light show at 8:00 PM (about an hour) — the temple lit up against the sea, the story of Somnath narrated in voice and song. Back to the hotel for dinner.

An early walk to the temple for the 7:00 AM Somnath morning aarti. The Jyotirlinga sanctum is small; the queue moves through, you bow, you offer water, you carry the bilva-leaves out. After darshan, breakfast at the hotel. Mid-morning we visit the cluster of nearby tirthas — all within 4 km of the temple, on the sea-side. Bhalka Tirth first — the spot under the peepal tree where Bhagavan Krishna, resting after the Kurukshetra war, was struck in the foot by a hunter's arrow that ended his earthly journey. The peepal is held to be the same tree, replanted across centuries. The shrine is small, the bhava is quiet.</p><p>From Bhalka to Triveni Sangam — where the rivers Hiran, Kapila, and the unseen Saraswati meet the Arabian Sea, the same Saurashtra Triveni described in the puranas. A snan-platform on the bank, a few priests offering tarpan, the small Geeta Mandir on the same bank — a circular shrine with eighteen pillars, each pillar inscribed with one chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. The eighteen chapters of the war-text composed at the start of the Mahabharata war, the war that brought Krishna to the end of his earthly Lila. Lunch at the hotel or a local Gujarati thali. Afternoon free for rest or a second darshan at the main temple. Dinner at the hotel.

The long road back. Breakfast at the hotel, checkout by 8:00 AM, and we drive north-east across Saurashtra to Ahmedabad — 415 km on the four-lane highway, roughly 7 hours with one chai stop and one lunch stop. The route passes Junagadh (the foot of Girnar, the Jain-Hindu pilgrim hill) and Rajkot (Saurashtra's commercial centre) but we do not halt at either — the day is a transit day. Lunch at a Gujarati highway dhaba en route — we know the cleaner ones. By 5:00 PM we reach Ahmedabad, freshen up at the station or a nearby retiring room, and the cab drops you at Ahmedabad Junction for the overnight return train to Mumbai (the Gujarat Mail 12902, which leaves Ahmedabad around 10:00 PM and reaches Mumbai Central by about 6:45 AM on Day 6 — AC, berths confirmed at booking). The two Jyotirlinga done. Dwarka of Krishna, Somnath of Shiva. The blessing of the Saurashtra coast carried home.
