The ritual
What a Rudrabhishek Involves
Rudrabhishek is the anointing of the Shiva linga while the Sri Rudram — the oldest hymn to Rudra, from the Yajurveda — is chanted. The linga is bathed in sequence: water, milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugarcane juice (the panchamrit), then Ganga jal, while the mantras continue unbroken. In Kashi, Shiva's own city, the ritual carries a particular grace.
Families arrange Rudrabhishek for a new beginning, for health, on birthdays and anniversaries, during Shravan, on Pradosh days, and on Mahashivratri. A standard vidhi with one pandit takes about 1.5–2 hours; a larger sankalpa with 5 or 11 pandits chanting in unison is a different experience altogether.
We arrange the venue (a private shivalaya near the ghats, or your hotel), the full samagri, and pandits whose recitation is their family tradition — not a recording, not an abbreviation.
From enquiry to yatra
How it works
- 1
Choose the occasion
Share your date and intention (sankalpa). Shravan Mondays and Pradosh book out early — tell us in advance if you can.
- 2
We propose the vidhi
One pandit or a panel of five/eleven, venue options, and one written price covering everything — samagri, venue, dakshina.
- 3
The Rudrabhishek
You perform the abhishek with your own hands, guided step by step, while the Rudram is chanted. Family participates fully.
- 4
Prasad & darshan
The ceremony closes with aarti and prasad. Most families follow with Kashi Vishwanath darshan — we arrange it in the same visit.
Questions asked often
Common questions
Can Rudrabhishek be performed inside Kashi Vishwanath temple?
The temple trust conducts its own scheduled Rudrabhishek sevas with temple priests; seats are limited and booked through the trust. We help you book those when available, or arrange the full vidhi at a private shivalaya minutes from the temple — where your family can participate without time pressure.
What is the best day for Rudrabhishek?
Mondays, Pradosh (the 13th lunar day), the entire month of Shravan, and Mahashivratri are the most auspicious. Your pandit can also advise a muhurat matched to the occasion — for a birthday or a new venture, for instance.
How much does a Rudrabhishek in Kashi cost?
It depends on the number of pandits, the samagri, and the venue. A single-pandit vidhi is modest; a five- or eleven-pandit Maha-Rudrabhishek is priced accordingly. We send one fixed written quote before you confirm — nothing is added on the day.
Do we need to bring anything?
Nothing. All samagri — bel patra, panchamrit, flowers, rudraksha, vessels — is included. Come in traditional dress if you can; we handle the rest.
Can it be combined with a Kashi Yatra package?
Yes, and most families do exactly this — Rudrabhishek on the morning of day two, between the dawn boat ride and evening Ganga Aarti. Tell us you want it included and we will build the itinerary around it.
