Rukmini Devi Temple sits about 2 kilometres north of the Dwarkadhish Mandir, on the road running from Dwarka town toward Okha. The temple is dedicated to Rukmini — the principal queen of Shri Krishna at Dwarka, daughter of Bhishmaka of Vidarbha. The 12th-century shrine is built in the Nagara style and is held to be the original Rukmini-mandir, separate from the Dwarkadhish temple itself.
The separation of the two temples is the subject of a famous local katha. Tradition tells that one day, when Krishna and Rukmini went to visit the angry sage Durvasa, they had a small incident involving thirst — Rukmini was thirsty, and Krishna struck the ground with his toe to bring forth a stream. Durvasa, holding to a strict view of dharma, cursed them: that they would live separately as a couple in their next residence at Dwarka. As a result, Rukmini's temple is 2 km removed from Krishna's, and pilgrims are held to complete the yatra with her darshan — customarily made after Dwarkadhish — honouring her separateness, without which the Dwarka darshan is held incomplete.

Rukmini Devi Temple is held by the Vaishnava tradition to be a Devi-shrine and a complement-shrine to Dwarkadhish. The bhav is of Rukmini as the principal queen, the head of Krishna's household, the Mata-Lakshmi-figure of the Dwarka tradition. Pilgrims who visit Rukmini's temple first and then Dwarkadhish's receive the bhav of the full divine household — wife-and-husband, queen-and-king, mother-and-father. The separation katha gives the visit emotional depth: pilgrims pray to Rukmini for forgiveness on behalf of any sins of pride or stubbornness that may have created barriers between them and Krishna.
History
The Rukmini Devi Temple is among the oldest extant temples at Dwarka. The principal structure dates from the 12th century, with renovations through the 15th-19th centuries. The temple is built in the Nagara style, its carved exterior preserving the workmanship of its medieval builders.
Architecture
The temple is a small Nagara-style shrine — shikhara, mandapa, and small inner sanctum holding the Rukmini-murti. The exterior carving features sculpture of human figures and elephants. The sanctum holds a stone-image of Rukmini in seated form, dressed daily in red sari and crowned with seasonal flowers.
Rituals & Practices
The temple opens around 6 AM and closes around 9 PM with four daily aartis. Pilgrims offer red sari, jaggery, and seasonal flowers. The traditional sequence on a Dwarka yatra: the main darshan at Dwarkadhish first, then Rukmini Devi Temple (auto-rickshaw from town, 5 minutes) for darshan and a small offering — the yatra is held incomplete without her darshan. Many pilgrims do Rukmini early morning, the Dwarkadhish later in the morning, and Bet Dwarka in the afternoon.
