The story
About this package
The essentials of Dev Deepawali, in one plan. On Kartik Purnima the administration stops vehicles at Rajghat and the other approaches around 2 PM, and the ghats fill beyond walking pace by late afternoon. This package works because we time everything around that.
How the day runs
- Morning, 24 November — our cab meets your train or flight. Reach Varanasi by 12 noon at the latest; check-in at a hotel within walking distance of the ghats.
- ~3:45 PM — walk with our guide to the pickup ghat (confirmed 48 hours before, chosen for that year's crowd routing).
- ~4:30 PM — board the double-decker Bajra boat and cast off. Midstream for the lighting hour as Assi to Panchganga catch light end to end, then in front of Dashashwamedh for the 21-priest Maha Aarti.
- ~8:15 PM — back to the ghat, walk to the hotel. The lamps burn past 9 PM if you want to walk the lit ghats after the rush eases.
- 25 November — drop to the station or airport.

Questions pilgrims ask
What is Dev Deepawali and why does it matter in Varanasi?
Dev Deepawali falls on Kartik Purnima, the full moon fifteen days after Diwali, when Varanasi's ghats are lit with lakhs of diyas to welcome the gods to the city. It is the biggest single night on the Varanasi calendar, bigger in crowd terms than Diwali itself in this city. The Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat is expanded for the night, and pilgrims come from across India to watch the steps turn into a wall of lamps.
When is Dev Deepawali in 2026, and does this package cover the main night?
Kartik Purnima, the main night of Dev Deepawali, falls on 24 November 2026. This package runs 24-25 November, with your boat and Maha Aarti viewing on the evening of the 24th itself, so it is timed to the actual festival night. Treat this as confirmed by the panchang rather than a date we chose for convenience.
Do we watch from a boat or from the ghat steps?
This package puts you on a double-decker Bajra boat, not on the ghat steps. You walk to the boarding ghat with a guide in the afternoon, board around 4:30 PM, and watch the lighting and the Maha Aarti from the water rather than standing in the ghat crowd. A boat seat costs more than free ghat viewing, but it means you are not competing for standing space with the crowd on the steps.
How early do we need to be ready, and what does the evening actually look like?
You leave the hotel around 3:45 PM to walk to the boarding ghat, board the boat by 4:30 PM, and stay on the water through the lighting hour and the Maha Aarti, which runs roughly 7 to 8 PM before you head back to the hotel by around 8:15 PM. Arrive at the hotel well before 3:45 PM that day, because the walk to the ghat takes longer than usual once the lanes fill up.
How crowded do the ghats get, and can a car reach the hotel that evening?
Dev Deepawali draws very large crowds to the Varanasi ghats, and the lanes around them are narrow at the best of times. That is why this package has you walk to the boarding ghat with a guide rather than drive — vehicles cannot get close to the water that evening, and the boat is what keeps you out of the densest part of the crowd.
How is the Ganga Aarti different on Dev Deepawali night compared to a normal evening?
The regular evening aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat is performed daily by a smaller group of priests; on Dev Deepawali night it is expanded, with around 21 priests taking part as described on our itinerary, and the ghats on both banks are lined with diyas rather than just the ceremony platform. Confirm exact priest numbers and any added elements closer to the date, since festival-night programming can change year to year.
What does the ₹7,999 price actually include?
The ₹7,999 per-person price (twin sharing, minimum two travellers) covers one night in a hotel near the ghats, a reserved seat on the double-decker Bajra boat for the lighting hour and Maha Aarti, a guide escorting you between hotel and boat, and station or airport pickup and drop. It does not include your travel to and from Varanasi, meals, darshan tickets, or an upper-deck seat, which costs an extra ₹1,000.
Is there a laser or light show as part of the evening?
Dev Deepawali is primarily a diya-lighting and aarti festival, and in some recent years the district administration has added extra elements like laser or drone displays on the ghats. We cannot promise a light show as part of this package since that programming is set by the local administration, not by us, so treat anything beyond the lighting and the Maha Aarti as a bonus if it happens.
What is the cancellation policy?
Once you confirm a Dev Deepawali booking, it is non-refundable regardless of how much notice you give, because your boat seat and hotel room are locked in months ahead for the festival. Read the booking terms carefully before you pay, and get your travel dates fixed before confirming.

“We came for my mother's 75th birthday darshan. Satmarg arranged wheelchair access, a pandit who spoke her dialect, and a private boat for her Ganga aarti.”
“Third time using Satmarg. The cab service is top-notch — AC Innova, polite driver, no surprise charges.”

Booking & payment — Dev Deepawali special terms • 25% advance required to lock hotel + boat inventory (these cannot be held otherwise). • Balance due 30 days before arrival. • Prices vary by boat tier and hotel category — quoted on enquiry. Cancellation — Dev Deepawali is non-refundable • Once confirmed, a Dev Deepawali booking is non-refundable, whatever the notice period. • The reason, stated plainly: rooms, boat seats and darshan passes for this one night are bought and paid for months in advance, on terms that permit no cancellation and no resale. That money is already with the hotel and the boatman before you travel, and we cannot recover it. • Please be certain of your dates before paying the advance. Paying it is acceptance of this clause. • Medical emergency and force majeure are handled under Clauses 7 and 8 of our Refund & Cancellation Policy. • Where the district administration changes boat timings, the boarding ghat, aarti arrangements or darshan access on the day — as it routinely does for crowd control — the package is treated as delivered and no refund arises. Weather disruption • Rare in November. If fog or unusual flood cancels boat movement on festival night, we substitute rooftop aarti viewing at a heritage hotel overlooking the ghats and refund ₹3,500 per person for the boat component, within 7 days. Substitutions • Hotel: equivalent property within the same walking distance if the primary is unavailable, with your approval before the booking confirms. • Boat: we may substitute an equivalent or higher tier if the primary boat becomes unavailable.
