About this package
The boat, the evening — yours. Satsang mandalis, extended families and offices ask for this every year: one boat, no strangers, and the freedom to sing, do a diya-daan on the water, and hold position where the group wants during the lighting hour.
What we arrange
- The whole double-decker Bajra boat, exclusively yours — no strangers aboard.
- Pickup ghat and cast-off time to suit the group, within that year's crowd plan.
- Guide on board; a priest for diya-daan and a short aarti on the water on request.
- Chai, water and light snacks; a simple veg dinner box on request.
- Life jackets for everyone; railings all round.
Reach the ghat by 2 PM
Vehicles are stopped at Rajghat around 2 PM. Groups from outside Varanasi should pair this with hotel nights on the 23rd — ask and we quote rooms for the whole group.

Questions pilgrims ask
What exactly do we get when we hire the whole boat?
You get exclusive use of a double-decker Bajra boat — no other bookings on board — along with the boatman and crew, an on-board guide, life jackets for everyone, and chai, water and light snacks through the evening. The boat carries a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 60 people, so it suits a satsang mandali, an extended family, or an office group travelling together.
Is the price per person or for the whole boat?
This is a whole-boat hire, not a per-person ticket — you are booking the entire vessel and its capacity for your group, not individual seats. Because boat tier and hotel category vary by group, pricing is quoted directly over WhatsApp rather than fixed on the page, so confirm the figure for your dates and group size before you commit.
When does this experience run in 2026?
Kartik Purnima, the main night of Dev Deepawali, falls on 24 November 2026, and that is the evening this whole-boat experience is built around. Confirm your exact boarding time and ghat with us 48 hours before your date, since these details are finalised closer to the day.
What's included on board, and what isn't?
Included: exclusive boat use, boatman and crew, an on-board guide, life jackets, and chai, water and light snacks. Not included: the priest and ritual materials for an on-water diya-daan, quoted separately if you want it, and any dinner beyond snacks — dinner boxes can be arranged separately on request.
Who is this boat hire actually meant for?
It's built for groups who want the boat to themselves — a satsang mandali, an extended family gathering, or a company outing — with no strangers sharing the deck. Boarding is via a gangway with railings throughout, which our page describes as manageable for elders and children, though anyone with significant mobility limits should tell us in advance so we can plan the boarding point accordingly.
Are rooms and transport part of this package?
As listed on our page, one night's rooms near the ghats for the festival date and group pickup/drop-off transport are included in the hire. Any hotel stay beyond that single night, or transfers outside the festival evening, are quoted separately, so tell us your full itinerary if you need more than one night covered.
How does payment work if there's no listed price?
Once we quote your group a price based on boat tier and hotel category, a 40% advance locks the boat and rooms, and the balance is due 30 days before your arrival date. Because the boat is paid to the boatman months in advance for the festival, this schedule isn't flexible.
What happens if weather stops the boat from going out?
If fog or a flooded ghat prevents the boat from moving, we substitute rooftop aarti viewing at a heritage hotel and refund ₹3,500 per person for the lost boat segment. This is a real possibility in Varanasi in November, so plan for it rather than assuming clear conditions.
What is the cancellation policy for a group booking like this?
Once confirmed, the booking is non-refundable regardless of notice period, because the boat is prepaid to the boatman months ahead of the festival for your group alone. Genuine medical emergencies and force majeure are handled separately on a case-by-case basis, so raise those with us directly if they arise.

“We came for my mother's 75th birthday darshan. Satmarg arranged wheelchair access, a pandit who spoke her dialect, and a private boat for her Ganga aarti.”
“Third time using Satmarg. The cab service is top-notch — AC Innova, polite driver, no surprise charges.”

Cancellation policy
Booking & payment — Dev Deepawali special terms • Advance required to lock the boat (it cannot be held otherwise); the amount is stated on your written quote. • Balance due 30 days before arrival. • Prices vary by boat tier and hotel category — quoted on enquiry. Cancellation — Dev Deepawali is non-refundable • Once confirmed, a Dev Deepawali booking is non-refundable, whatever the notice period. • The reason, stated plainly: the boat for this one night is booked and paid for months in advance, on terms that permit no cancellation and no resale. That money is already with the boatman before you travel, and we cannot recover it. • Please be certain of your dates before paying the advance. Paying it is acceptance of this clause. • Medical emergency and force majeure are handled under Clauses 7 and 8 of our Refund & Cancellation Policy. • Where the district administration changes boat timings, the boarding ghat, aarti arrangements or darshan access on the day — as it routinely does for crowd control — the package is treated as delivered and no refund arises. Weather disruption • Rare in November. If fog or unusual flood cancels boat movement on festival night, we substitute rooftop aarti viewing at a heritage hotel overlooking the ghats and refund ₹3,500 per person for the boat component, within 7 days. Substitutions • Boat: we may substitute an equivalent or higher tier if the primary boat becomes unavailable.
