Itinerary

The story

About this package

Prayagraj in a single day, for those already in Prayagraj. Morning to evening — pickup from your hotel or the station, a boat to the Sangam where Ganga, Yamuna, and the unseen Saraswati meet, a Pragwal pandit who ties the kalava and helps you say the sankalp for snan, and the four shrines that hold the city together: Akshayavat at Patalpuri, lying Hanuman at Bade Hanuman Mandir, Bharadwaj Rishi's ashram, and the Nehru family home at Anand Bhavan if there is time and inclination.

The price is our floor — ₹1,799 per person. We keep it this low because Prayagraj is where many yatris pause for a day on the way between Kashi and Ayodhya, or arrive for a single morning of Sangam-snan and need someone to handle the boat, the pandit, and the temple lanes without fuss. The vehicle is AC. The guide speaks Hindi. The boat is coordinated with a Pragwal family we work with regularly.

What this package is

  • Day-trip from within Prayagraj. Pickup from your hotel or from Prayagraj Junction / Prayag station between 7 and 8 AM, drop back at the same place by 6 PM. No overnight stay — this is for travellers already in the city.
  • Sangam-snan by boat, coordinated with a Pragwal pandit. The boat takes you from Saraswati Ghat or Kila Ghat to the confluence; a Pragwal pandit ties the kalava, helps you offer the sankalp with your gotra and name, and guides the snan at the Ganga-Yamuna-Saraswati triveni. You return to the ghat the same boat.
  • The four shrines. Akshayavat — the immortal banyan inside Patalpuri Mandir at Allahabad Fort (the underground chamber that the Yamuna once lapped against). Bade Hanuman Mandir at Kila Ghat — the only large lying Hanuman in north India, twenty feet long, partly below ground level. Bharadwaj Ashram — the rishi's ashram where Ram is held to have stayed during the vanvas, with the old Bharadweshwar Mahadev. Anand Bhavan — the Nehru family home (museum entry extra, optional).
  • AC vehicle and Hindi-speaking guide. Sedan for 2–3, Innova for 4–6, Tempo Traveller for 7–15. The guide knows the boat coordination, the Patalpuri queue rhythm, and the parking at Bade Hanuman.
  • From ₹1,799 per person, quoted on enquiry. Final price depends on vehicle size, boat type (shared or private), and date. Anand Bhavan museum ticket is paid at the gate.

How the day unfolds

Pickup at 7:30 AM from your Prayagraj hotel or station. First stop is Saraswati Ghat or Kila Ghat — the boat is waiting, the Pragwal pandit comes aboard. The boat takes 20 to 40 minutes, depending on boat type and river level, to reach the Sangam point where the clear Yamuna and the muddier Ganga can still be seen meeting on a calm day. The sankalp is short — your name, your gotra, the names of those you wish to remember. Snan happens at the boat itself with a rope-tether and the pandit's guidance; older yatris can simply touch the water with cupped hands. We return to the ghat by 10 AM.

From the ghat we drive to Allahabad Fort to enter Patalpuri Mandir — descend the steps into the underground chamber for Akshayavat darshan. A short ride to Bade Hanuman Mandir at Kila Ghat for the lying Hanuman darshan; the murti is below the floor level and you look down at the deity. A simple vegetarian thali lunch around 1 PM at a Prayagraj place we trust. Afternoon at Bharadwaj Ashram — the old neem-shaded compound near Anand Bhavan with the Bharadweshwar Mahadev shrine. If time allows and you are inclined, a half-hour at the Anand Bhavan museum (ticket extra). Drop at your hotel or station by 6 PM.

Who this is for

Book this if:

  • You are already in Prayagraj — staying at a hotel, or arriving by train for a single day of Sangam-snan
  • You want the Sangam-snan done properly — Pragwal pandit, sankalp with gotra, snan at the actual confluence, not just a ghat-dip
  • You are travelling with elders who need the boat coordination and the temple-lane handling taken care of
  • You are pairing this with a Kashi or Ayodhya yatra and have one day in Prayagraj to fit Sangam, Akshayavat, and Bade Hanuman

When to go

Sangam is open year-round. The two finest windows are October to February (cool, clear water, easiest boating) and Magh Mela in January-February (the smaller annual mela, the air full of kirtan and kalpavas). Avoid July-September monsoon — the rivers run high and the Akshayavat chamber is sometimes closed for water seepage. Maha Kumbh and Ardh Kumbh years (next major: 2025 already past, 2031 Ardh) need separate booking — crowds run into crores and our regular day-trip cannot navigate them.

Before you book

Questions pilgrims ask

What does ₹1,799 include, and what do I pay separately?

The price covers the AC vehicle for the day, pickup and drop at your Prayagraj hotel or the railway station, a shared boat to the Sangam, a Hindi-speaking guide, and a vegetarian thali lunch. You'll pay the Pragwal pandit's dakshina directly (typically ₹201–501 per person) and the Anand Bhavan museum ticket (₹20–70) if you choose to go in, since both are optional and paid on the spot.

What does the day actually look like?

Pickup is around 7:30 AM from your hotel or Prayagraj Junction, a short drive to Saraswati or Kila Ghat, then the boat out to the Sangam and back by around 10 AM. From there it's Akshayavat at Allahabad Fort, Bade Hanuman Mandir, lunch around 1 PM, Bharadwaj Ashram in the afternoon, and an optional Anand Bhavan stop if time allows, with drop-off by 6 PM.

How do we actually reach the confluence point — do we have to take a boat?

The Sangam — where the Ganga and Yamuna visibly meet — is out in the river, not on the bank, so a boat is the only way to reach the actual confluence point; the shared boat is included in the package. The ride out takes 20–40 minutes depending on water levels and boat traffic, and a Pragwal pandit usually joins to guide the kalava-tying and sankalp.

What's the Sangam snan like in practice — is there somewhere to change?

Snan happens from the boat itself at the confluence, so you're in the current rather than standing at a bank, and it helps to wear clothes you don't mind getting wet under a towel wrap. Changing facilities at the ghats are basic — expect simple curtained areas rather than proper rooms — so carry a full change of clothes and a plastic bag for wet ones.

Do we need special permission to see Akshayavat and Patalpuri?

Akshayavat sits inside Allahabad Fort, which is an active Army installation, so access has historically been more restricted than an ordinary temple visit — sometimes needing clearance from the fort authorities, occasionally opened more freely during major mela periods. We build this stop into every itinerary and handle the entry formalities on the day, but we'll confirm the current access arrangement with you closer to your travel date rather than promise a guaranteed walk-in.

What's special about Bade Hanuman Mandir?

It's known locally as the "reclining Hanuman" temple, since the deity here is shown lying down rather than standing — unusual among Hanuman temples in North India. It sits near Kila Ghat close to the Sangam, and local tradition holds that the water level of the Ganga rises to touch the idol's feet during the monsoon before receding, which is part of why the temple draws steady footfall year-round.

Is Anand Bhavan worth the stop, and why is it optional?

It's the Nehru family's ancestral home, now a museum, and worth it if you have an interest in that period of Indian history — it's optional mainly because it can get tight on time if the boat or lunch run long. Entry is a separate paid ticket (₹20 for the ground floor, ₹70 for full access) and the museum is closed on Mondays, so we skip it automatically if your visit falls on one.

Is 2027 a Kumbh year, or will this be a normal visit?

2027 is not a Kumbh year at Prayagraj — the last major gathering was the 2025 Kumbh, and the next one on the traditional cycle is years away. What Prayagraj does hold every year is the Magh Mela, a smaller annual bathing festival through the month of Magh (typically mid-January to February); we'll confirm exact 2027 Magh Mela dates closer to the time once the Mela Authority announces them, since they follow the lunar calendar and shift year to year.

What should we wear and carry for the day?

Modest clothing is expected at every stop (covered shoulders, full-length trousers), and you'll want a towel, a full change of clothes, and a cloth bag to carry wet clothes after the Sangam snan. Carry your government ID, some cash for the Pragwal dakshina and any optional tickets, and avoid the July–September monsoon months if you can, when river levels and boat timings get unpredictable.
