5:00 AM pickup from the central Chennai point in the AC shared coach. We head north onto the Chennai-Tirupati highway via Renigunta — the road is fastest before the morning trucks build. About 9:00 AM we reach Tiruchanur and head straight to the Sri Padmavathi Devi temple. By Tamil tradition pilgrims visit the consort before climbing to the Lord — Padmavathi darshan first, the sanctum where the Goddess is held to have emerged from the Padma Sarovaram lotus pond. Free entry; allow 60–90 minutes for the queue. Around 11:00 AM we drive the short distance to the base of Tirumala. The coach climbs the ghat road — twenty minutes of hairpin bends through the Eastern Ghats. At Tirumala our coordinator walks you to the reporting point for your pre-booked TTD ₹300 Special Entry Darshan slot; the slot timings vary by day and we time the pickup to align with your queue. Inside the Sri Venkateswara temple — the long covered passage, the laddu counter at the gate, the moment in front of the Moolavar. Anna Prasadam at the TTD dining hall after darshan. By 5:00 PM we begin the descent down the ghat road and drive back via Renigunta. We reach the central Chennai drop point by 11:00 PM.
Note Total drive: ~330 km (Chennai-Tiruchanur 140 km, Tiruchanur-Tirumala 25 km via ghat, Tirumala-Chennai 165 km). Total day: 18 hours. Carry: water, a light snack for the morning drive, original photo ID (mandatory for the TTD ₹300 special-entry slot — Aadhaar, passport, or driving licence; the ID must match the name the slot was booked in). No leather items inside the temple — leave belts and wallets in the coach or use the TTD cloakroom. Dress: traditional preferred for men (dhoti or pyjama-kurta) and women (saree or churidar); shoulders and knees covered. Mobile phones are not allowed inside the Sri Venkateswara sanctum — deposit them at the cloakroom or in the coach. The coordinator shares his WhatsApp number for coordination through the day. Walking route via Alipiri or Srivari Mettu is available on request at booking; it adds 3–4 hours and shifts the schedule.
The story
About this package
Tirupati in a single day, from Chennai. Five in the morning to eleven at night — eighteen hours, an AC shared coach, the two darshans that any pilgrim from Tamil Nadu wants to do together. You wake up in Chennai, bow at Padmavathi Devi in Tiruchanur before climbing Tirumala, stand in the ₹300 special-entry queue on the slot booked online in your name, and receive the anna prasadam before driving home. No hotel, no luggage, just the day and the darshan.
The price is the lowest we sell this route at — ₹2,299 per person. We keep it this low because Tirupati is where most pilgrims from Chennai begin, and we want the first yatra with Satmarg to feel light on the wallet. The coach is AC. The crew speaks Hindi and Tamil. The route is one we run nearly every weekend.
What this package is
- Day-trip from Chennai. Pickup from a central Chennai point at 5 AM, drop back at the same point by 11 PM. No overnight stay.
- Padmavathi before Balaji. The Tamil tradition is to visit Goddess Padmavathi at Tiruchanur first — she is Lord Venkateswara's consort, and pilgrims hold that her darshan completes the Tirumala one. We follow this order.
- ₹300 TTD special-entry slot assistance. The ₹300 Special Entry Darshan ticket is booked online in advance in the pilgrim's own name on the TTD portal — the monthly quota opens on the first Friday of the preceding month, and there is no assured walk-up counter on the hill. We help you place the booking the moment the quota opens, and on the day we handle the reporting time and the queue logistics so you do not lose two hours figuring it out.
- AC shared coach. Comfortable seating, roughly four hours each way via Renigunta. The coach climbs Tirumala on the ghat road; if you prefer to walk the steps (the traditional Alipiri or Srivari Mettu route), let us know on enquiry.
- Hindi/Tamil bilingual operations. The coordinator on the coach speaks both Hindi and Tamil — useful at the TTD counters, with the priests at Padmavathi, and for the anna prasadam queue at the top.
- From ₹2,299 per person, ex-Chennai. Final price depends on the date and the seat count — quoted on enquiry. The ₹300 darshan ticket is separate, paid by you at the TTD counter.
How the day unfolds
We leave Chennai at 5 AM sharp — the early start matters because the Tirupati road via Renigunta is fastest before the morning traffic builds, and the Padmavathi temple at Tiruchanur is calmest before 10 AM. About four hours on the road and we are at Tiruchanur: Padmavathi Devi darshan first, the temple where the Goddess took the form of a lotus and emerged from the Padma Sarovaram. After her darshan we drive the short distance to the base of Tirumala.
The coach climbs the ghat road — twenty minutes of hairpin bends with the Eastern Ghats opening on either side. At the top our coordinator walks you to the reporting point for your pre-booked ₹300 Special Entry Darshan slot. The slot timings vary by day; we time the pickup to align with the queue you get. Inside the Sri Venkateswara temple — the long covered passage, the laddu counter at the gate, the moment in front of the Moolavar. Anna Prasadam at the TTD dining hall after darshan. We descend in the late afternoon, drive back via Renigunta, and reach Chennai by 11 PM.
Who this is for
Book this if:
- You live in Chennai and want Balaji darshan without a hotel night at Tirumala
- You are bringing parents or elders who want Padmavathi and Balaji together but cannot manage the Tirumala accommodation queue
- You want a low-cost first yatra with Satmarg before deciding on a longer Rameshwaram or Madurai trip
- You are comfortable with a long road day — eighteen hours, mostly on the Chennai-Tirupati highway but a few hours on the Tirumala ghat road and at the temple queues
When to go
Tirumala is open year-round. The two finest windows are November to February (cool, the hill air is clean and the queues are shorter on weekday slots) and Brahmotsavam in September–October (crowds are heavy but the festival processions of Sri Venkateswara are a sight). Avoid the Vaikunta Ekadasi week in December–January unless you are willing to wait six to eight hours in the Sarvadarshan queue — the ₹300 ticket still helps but the temple itself runs slow. Tamil Tai (mid-January to mid-February) is a beautiful month to go.

Questions pilgrims ask
What does the ₹2,299 price cover, and what's extra?
The ₹2,299 per-person price covers the AC coach round trip from central Chennai, driver and coordinator, tolls and parking, the Padmavathi Devi darshan at Tiruchanur, and our help booking the TTD ₹300 Special Entry Darshan slot online in advance. It does not include the ₹300 darshan ticket itself, which TTD charges directly, nor breakfast, dinner, donations, or extra laddus beyond the complimentary one.
Is a single day really enough for Tirupati and back from Chennai?
It's a genuinely long day — pickup at 5 am and return by around 11 pm, covering about 330 km of driving plus the ghat road climb and the darshan queue — so it works if you're comfortable with a full 18-hour day on the road and in queues, not if you want a relaxed pace. If that sounds tiring, our Bangalore or Hyderabad packages with an overnight stay are a gentler way to do the same darshan.
Can you guarantee we'll get the Special Entry Darshan slot?
We book your ₹300 Special Entry Darshan slot on TTD's official online portal in advance, but the slot itself is entirely TTD's to allocate — availability depends on the date, and during peak season or festivals, slots can be limited or unavailable even when booked early. If a slot genuinely can't be secured, the free Sarva Darshan queue is the fallback, though its wait time varies widely and we can't promise a specific number of hours.
Is there a dress code, and what shouldn't we carry?
Traditional Indian dress is expected at Tirumala — for men that's a dhoti or pyjama with an upper cloth, and for women a saree, half-saree, or churidar with an upper cloth. Mobile phones, cameras and leather items aren't allowed into the sanctum area and must be deposited before darshan, so plan to travel light for the temple portion of the day.
Why do we visit Padmavathi temple at Tiruchanur first?
It follows an established South Indian tradition of visiting the consort before the Lord — Padmavathi Devi's temple at Tiruchanur is considered the appropriate first stop before Tirumala. It also breaks up the day with a shorter, calmer darshan (typically a 60-90 minute queue) before the longer climb and wait at the main temple.
What's the laddu prasadam situation?
Each pilgrim is entitled to a complimentary laddu after darshan when you present your darshan token at the counter — this is standard TTD practice, though we'd recommend confirming the exact current entitlement and any counter price for extra laddus with our coordinator on the day, since TTD periodically revises these. Extra laddus and other prasadam can be purchased separately at the TTD counters.
How long is the drive up the ghat road, and is there a walking option?
The ghat road from the base to Tirumala is roughly 18-22 km by vehicle and takes about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic, on a tolled road that our coach handles as part of the package. Pilgrims who prefer to walk can take the roofed Alipiri footpath (about 7.8 km) instead, but that's a multi-hour climb that doesn't fit inside a single-day Chennai trip.
What is Anna Prasadam, and is it a full meal?
Anna Prasadam is the free meal served to pilgrims at TTD's dining halls after darshan, and it's included in your coordination on this trip — but treat it as a simple temple meal, not a restaurant-standard lunch, and note that breakfast and dinner aren't covered at all on this itinerary, so eat before pickup or after drop-off in Chennai.
When should we avoid travelling?
November to February is the most comfortable season for this trip, with cooler ghat-road mornings; avoid the Vaikunta Ekadasi period (typically December) if you want to skip TTD's heaviest crowds of the year, since queues and travel times both stretch significantly during that week.
