Arrival at Katra (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway station or by road from Jammu) and transfer to a 3★ hotel near the base camp. The Hindi-speaking ground host meets the group for a settling-in and briefing. The afternoon is given to two practical tasks that the Shrine Board now requires of every pilgrim — the RFID Yatra Parchi at the SMVDSB counter (the digital pilgrim registration that has replaced the old paper slip and is now mandatory for entry beyond Banganga) and a heli briefing covering the next morning's reporting time at Katra helipad, baggage limits, weight policy, and weather contingencies. A quiet evening, an early dinner, and rest.
An early start. Pick-up from the hotel and reporting at Katra helipad. The SMVDSB helicopter lifts off for Sanjichhat — an eight-minute flight over the Trikuta foothills that gains in those few minutes what the foot-route gains in five to eight hours of climb. From Sanjichhat, a 2.5 km walk down to the Bhawan (battery-vehicle assistance available on the paved stretch where needed). At the Bhawan, the host coordinates the darshan queue for the three Pindis — Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati — the natural rock-forms in which Mata is worshipped. After darshan, the traditional Bhairon Mandir add: about two kilometres above the Bhawan stands the shrine of Bhairon Nath, without which the Vaishno Devi yatra is by tradition considered incomplete — reached on foot, by pony, or by the SMVDSB ropeway from the Bhawan (about three minutes each way, ₹100 round trip). Return to Sanjichhat helipad and the helicopter back to Katra. Evening at leisure at the hotel.
A relaxed final morning. After breakfast and check-out, an optional visit to the Devi Pindi Mata Mandir near Panthal — about 9 km from Katra by road and then a walk of roughly 2.5 km up to the shrine, where Mata is said to have rested before continuing the climb to Trikuta — for those who have the morning and the legs for one more darshan. The host accompanies the group to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway station or onward bus stand for the return journey. Departure with the prasad and blessings of Mata Rani.
The story
About this package
For pilgrims who wish to reach Mata Rani at the Bhawan without the long climb from Katra, the helicopter sector between Katra helipad and Sanjichhat is the gentlest path the Shrine Board permits. Eight minutes in the air over the Trikuta foothills, then a 2.5 km walk down to the Bhawan, darshan of the three Pindis — Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati — and the traditional Bhairon Mandir add, completed in dignity and without strain.
This three-day plan is built around that single helicopter sector. Day one is arrival at Katra, check-in at a 3★ hotel near the base camp, and assistance with the RFID Yatra Parchi at the SMVDSB counter — the mandatory pilgrim registration that the Shrine Board now issues in place of the old paper slip. Day two is the yatra itself: a morning lift from Katra helipad to Sanjichhat, the walk down to the Bhawan, darshan, the Bhairon Mandir trek of about two kilometres above the Bhawan (the yatra is traditionally considered incomplete without Bhairon darshan), and the return helicopter to Katra. Day three is a quiet morning, an optional visit to the Devi Pindi Mata Mandir near Panthal — about 9 km from Katra by road and then a walk of roughly 2.5 km — and drop to the railway station.
About the helicopter sector
The Katra ↔ Sanjichhat helicopter service is operated under the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) and booked through the official Shrine Board window at online.maavaishnodevi.org. Tickets are issued in the pilgrim's name as per Board policy, and we facilitate the T-60 booking window — placing the request on your behalf at the moment the slot opens, in your name, with your Aadhaar details, fully transparent. Subject to availability, weather, and Shrine Board clearance on the day.

Questions pilgrims ask
What does ₹14,499 include, and what do I pay separately?
₹14,499 covers two nights in a 3-star hotel near the Katra base camp, breakfast on both mornings plus one dinner, RFID Yatra Parchi registration assistance, help booking your Shrine Board helicopter ticket, a Hindi-speaking ground host for all three days, and local transfers between hotel, helipad and the railway station. Meals beyond what's listed, the helicopter fare itself, pony/porter services and temple donations are paid separately.
Is the helicopter fare included in the price?
No — the helicopter ticket fare is paid directly to the Shrine Board and is not included in our ₹14,499 price; we handle the booking process on your behalf, but the fare itself is a pass-through cost billed by the Board.
How does helicopter booking actually work, and can it be guaranteed?
Helicopter seats for the Katra-Sanjichhat route are booked through the Shrine Board's own official window at online.maavaishnodevi.org, in your name with your Aadhaar details, and allotment depends on availability, weather clearance and the Board's own scheduling — no operator, including us, can guarantee you a seat or a fixed flight time. We submit and track the booking for you, but the final confirmation comes from the Board.
How much walking is still required after landing at Sanjichhat?
The flight covers the steepest part of the climb in about eight minutes, but you still walk roughly 2.5 km downhill from the Sanjichhat helipad to reach the Bhawan — this isn't a door-to-door service, so wear proper walking shoes even if you fly.
What happens if the helicopter is cancelled due to weather?
Helicopter flights on this route are grounded fairly often by fog, wind or low cloud, especially in winter and monsoon months. If that happens on your date, the Shrine Board's own refund and rescheduling policy applies to the flight cost, and we'll help you shift to the walking route or a later slot so your yatra isn't wasted.
Does this package cover the Bhairon Mandir visit too?
Yes, Day 2 of our plan includes the Bhairon Mandir climb, about 2 km above the Bhawan, which most pilgrims visit before returning by helicopter — we build this into the same day so you complete the traditional order of darshan.
Is the 24-hour RFID rule relevant even if I fly?
Yes — the Shrine Board's rule that the round trip must finish within 24 hours of your RFID card applies whether you trek or fly. Since your helicopter day is a same-day up-and-down from Katra, our plan comfortably fits inside that window either way.
What's the optional Day 3 visit, and is it worth it?
Day 3 is kept light on purpose — an optional visit to Devi Pindi Mata Mandir near Panthal, about 9 km by road plus a 2.5 km walk, before your onward journey. It's not essential to the core yatra, so skip it if you'd rather use the morning to rest before travelling home.
Who is this package best suited for?
This package suits elderly pilgrims, families with young children, or anyone who wants to complete Vaishno Devi in a shorter, less physically demanding visit — the helicopter removes the steepest climbing, though you'll still do some walking at both ends.
