Premium pickup at Jammu — airport or Jammu Tawi railway station — in an AC sedan, with a Hindi-speaking ground host who stays with the group for the next four days. Check-in at a 4★ hotel in Jammu for refreshment. Afternoon darshan at the Raghunath Mandir complex built by Maharaja Gulab Singh and completed by Maharaja Ranbir Singh — one of the largest temple complexes in north India, with seven shikharas and shrines to Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, and the principal deities of the Dogra royal house. Onward to Ranbireshwar Mahadev, a 19th-century Shiva temple where a single black-stone lingam of nearly seven feet rises in the inner sanctum. Early dinner at the hotel and a settled night in Jammu before the drive up to Katra in the morning.
Breakfast at the hotel and check-out for the drive to Katra — about two hours up the National Highway through the Shivalik foothills, the Trikuta range rising into view. Check-in at the 4★ hotel near the base camp and RFID Yatra Parchi assistance at the SMVDSB counter (the digital pilgrim registration that has replaced the old paper slip and is now mandatory for entry beyond Banganga). The yatra route begins at Banganga, where Mata is said to have struck the rock with her arrow to draw out the spring that quenched Hanumanji's thirst — onward past Charan Paduka, the imprint of Mata's feet, and Ardhkuwari, the cave-shrine where Mata meditated in the womb of the mountain for nine months. Arrival at the Bhawan for darshan of the three Pindis — Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati — the natural rock-forms in which Mata is worshipped. (Pilgrims who prefer the helicopter sector Katra ↔ Sanjichhat may add it on request at additional Shrine Board fare.) Night halt at the Bhawan or descent to the Katra hotel by pilgrim choice and condition.
The third day is given to Bhairon Mandir — the two-kilometre climb from the Bhawan to the shrine of Bhairon Nath, without which the Vaishno Devi yatra is by tradition considered incomplete. The host coordinates the ascent — on foot, by pony, or by the SMVDSB ropeway from the Bhawan (about three minutes each way, ₹100 round trip) — and the darshan at the Bhairon shrine, the highest point of the traditional yatra circuit. After Bhairon darshan, the unhurried descent to Katra by the pilgrim route, with rest stops as needed. Arrival at the 4★ hotel near the base camp by evening for hot water, a warm meal, and the rest the body asks for after the climb. Quiet night at Katra.
A slow final morning. After breakfast and check-out, darshan at the Devi Pindi Mata Mandir near Panthal — about 9 km from Katra by road and then a walk of roughly 2.5 km up to the shrine, where Mata is said to have rested before continuing the climb to Trikuta — for a closing darshan before the drive down to Jammu. Onward by AC sedan to Jammu airport for the return flight, with the host accompanying the group to the terminal. Drop at Jammu airport (approximately two and a half hours from Katra by road). Departure with the prasad and blessings of Mata Rani.
The story
About this package
Most Vaishno Devi packages begin and end at Katra. This four-day plan begins the moment you land at Jammu — the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, a Dogra city of temples on the bank of the Tawi, and the gateway through which pilgrims have approached Mata Rani for generations. Premium pickup in a sedan from Jammu airport or Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-bound railway platforms at Jammu Tawi, the historic Raghunath Mandir complex of Maharaja Gulab Singh, the cave-shrine of Ranbireshwar Mahadev, and only then the gentle drive of about two hours up to Katra at the foot of the Trikuta range.
The Katra leg is built around a 4★ hotel near the base camp — generous rooms, hot water through the night, and a kitchen that understands the satvik palate of pilgrims. Day two carries the heart of the yatra: RFID Yatra Parchi assistance at the SMVDSB counter, the climb past Banganga where Mata is said to have struck the rock with her arrow, Charan Paduka where she paused, Ardhkuwari where she meditated nine months in the womb of the mountain, and onward to the Bhawan for darshan of the three Pindis — Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati. Bhawan ascent is by the pilgrim's choice — on foot for those who wish to walk the traditional way, or by helicopter sector on request and at additional Shrine Board fare.
Day three is given to the Bhairon Mandir trek, the two-kilometre climb above the Bhawan without which the yatra is by tradition incomplete, and the unhurried descent to Katra for an evening of rest. Day four is a slow morning at the Devi Pindi Mata Mandir near Panthal — about 9 km from Katra by road and then a walk of roughly 2.5 km — and a sedan drop back to Jammu airport for the return flight. The sedan stays with the group throughout — the same vehicle and driver from Jammu to Katra and back — so the rhythm of the four days is yours to keep.

Questions pilgrims ask
What does ₹18,999 cover, including the Jammu portion?
The ₹18,999 covers one night in a 4-star Jammu hotel, two nights in a 4-star hotel near the Katra base camp, breakfast every day plus dinner on Day 1, a dedicated AC sedan with driver for the whole Jammu-Katra-Jammu circuit including fuel, tolls and parking, RFID Yatra Parchi registration help, and a Hindi-speaking ground host for all four days. It doesn't include lunches, pony/palki/helicopter costs, or temple donations.
Why does the itinerary start in Jammu and add temple visits there?
Jammu is the nearest airport and rail head to Katra, so we use the first day to cover two temples worth visiting on the way — Raghunath Mandir and Ranbireshwar Mahadev — rather than have you sit idle after landing; you then drive the roughly two hours to Katra, so nothing is wasted.
Is the whole Vaishno Devi trek done on foot in this package, or is there an easier option?
Yes, the core climb from Banganga to Bhawan is done on foot in this package, spread more gently with an overnight break before the Bhairon Mandir portion — it's paced for comfort, not speed. If trekking isn't possible for someone in your group, our helicopter package covers the same darshan with far less walking.
How is this different from the cheaper 2-day package from Katra?
The main differences are pace and comfort: this plan gives you four days and 4-star hotels instead of two days and a budget stay, spreads the climb across calmer days with an overnight break, and adds temple visits in Jammu and a dedicated AC sedan for the whole trip rather than a shared coordinator vehicle.
What are the 4-star hotels like, and where exactly are they?
You stay in a 4-star hotel in Jammu for one night, and a 4-star hotel near the Katra base camp for two nights, both on twin-sharing; we choose properties within easy reach of the registration counters and trek start point so you're not adding extra distance on trek days.
Is a helicopter option available if someone in my group can't trek?
This particular package is built around the trek, not the helicopter; if you'd prefer to fly to Sanjichhat instead of walking, our dedicated helicopter package from Katra is the one to book, or ask us and we can look at combining elements for your group.
Does the RFID 24-hour rule affect a 4-day plan like this?
Yes, the same rule applies — your round trip must be completed within 24 hours of your RFID card being issued. Because this plan spreads the climb over two days with an overnight stay near or at the Bhawan, we time your card issue and route so the up-and-down portions each stay inside the required window.
What's the Devi Pindi Mata Mandir visit on the last day?
On Day 4 we take you to Devi Pindi Mata Mandir near Panthal, about 9 km by road from Katra followed by a 2.5 km walk — a quieter shrine many pilgrims add on when they have a spare morning before heading back to Jammu airport.
Who should choose this over the helicopter package?
Choose this over the helicopter package if you want to experience the traditional trek at an unhurried pace, prefer 4-star stays over budget ones, and have four days to spare rather than three; choose the helicopter package instead if walking 12+ km isn't realistic for you or your group.
