Varanasi Family Tour — 4 Days 3 Nights

Varanasi works beautifully for families when the days are planned with their pace in mind. A six-year-old should not be asked to climb 9 km of uneven steps. Grandparents need an afternoon rest. A four-year-old wants ice cream at unexpected hours. This package is built around all of that.

Comfortable hotel within walking distance of the ghats. Walking segments kept under 3 km a day, with an AC cab on call any time. A planned two-hour rest after lunch each day. One stop on every day chosen with children in mind — the Ramnagar Fort museum, the Ramayana puppet show at Tulsi Manas, the deer park at Sarnath, and a boat ride where the children float their own diya. Meal timings and temple queues arranged for off-peak windows so grandparents are comfortable.

How we look after this journey for you

• The temple sequence is honoured. Visited in the traditional Kashi Yatra order on Day 2 morning — Sakshi Vinayak, Kal Bhairav, Annapurna, Vishwanath.
• The bookings are made early. Boat slots, reserved Aarti seating, and Vishwanath darshan in an off-peak window — all arranged before you arrive.
• The pacing is gentle. Walking under 3 km a day, an afternoon rest built in, and a cab ready when little legs are tired.
• You arrive prepared. A printed briefing reaches you before Day 1 — the meaning of the rituals, what to look for at each temple, the small customs of the city, and a few notes written for children.

What you will carry home

And a printed family briefing the children may end up reading out at the dinner table.

A few things to know before you arrive

1. Wear cotton. Even in winter the afternoons can be warm, and synthetics are uncomfortable inside crowded temples — especially for children.
2. Carry ₹1,000 in small notes — ₹10s and ₹50s for dakshina, small offerings, chai and the occasional ice cream.
3. No leather inside Kashi Vishwanath. Belts, wallets, leather watch straps and handbags are all restricted. Easiest to leave them at the hotel on Day 2.
4. Shoes with grip for everyone. Ghat steps are stone, often wet, sometimes slippery from flower offerings — please mind footing for children and elders.
5. Modest dress inside temples. Shoulders and knees covered. A dupatta or light scarf is useful.
6. A small ziplock for your phone. It will travel with you on the boat, and water happens.

• Ramnagar Fort — the old palace museum across the river, with vintage cars, palanquins and royal armoury that children remember long after the trip
• Tulsi Manas Temple — animated puppets that tell the Ramayana, in Hindi and English
• Sarnath deer park — gentle paths, real deer, and a quiet picnic lunch
• Boat ride with diya-lighting — the children light their own diya and float it on the Ganga
• Kachori-making workshop (optional add-on) — the children watch a halwai at his bhatti and try their hand

Frequently asked

How young can children be?

The package is comfortable from age 5 onwards. For children aged 2–4, our Premium Private 1-day is a gentler fit — a four-day schedule can be a lot for very young children.

Can a temple be skipped if the children are tired?

Yes. Each day has built-in flexibility. The main Vishwanath darshan is held on Day 2 morning, before the children are tired. Afternoon temples can be set aside in favour of pool or hotel time without affecting the rest of the trip.

Grandparents with knee or mobility concerns?

Please mention this in your enquiry. We swap walking segments for the cab, choose lunch spots close to the ghats, and can arrange a wheelchair escort at Vishwanath if helpful.

Is a guide included?

The core package includes a printed family briefing — meanings, maps, mantras and cultural protocol, with a few notes written for children. A temple interpreter or priest is available as a paid add-on.

Do we need to be Hindu?

Not at all. This package is for any family drawn to Kashi — Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Sikh, of any faith, or of none. We ask only for respect for the rituals and the people performing them.

How strict is vegetarian? Eggs at breakfast?

Meals included with the package are pure-vegetarian, kid-friendly, and lighter on spice. Eggs at breakfast can be arranged at the hotel. If grandparents prefer no onion or garlic at temple-adjacent meals, please tell us in your enquiry.

What are the hotels like?

Heritage boutique with family rooms — typically 10–30 rooms, restored havelis or ghat-side buildings. Clean, A/C, hot water, Wi-Fi. Not luxury (no spa, no pool), but close to the ghats and full of character. If you would prefer a 5-star stay (BrijRama, Taj Ganges, Suryauday Haveli), we can upgrade for a supplemental rate — please mention in your enquiry.
